The NSRCEL is so named after N.S.Raghavan, formerly Joint Managing Director of Infosys Technologies Ltd. He is one of the co-founders of Infosys and retired in the year 2000. Presently, he mentors aspiring entrepreneurs and is on the Boards of many companies. As the chairman of NSRCEL Advisory Council, Mr Raghavan brings in more than 25 years of entrepreneurial and managerial experience to the team. NSRCEL also has eminent academicians and practitioners on its Advisory Council to guide its activities.
Activities in a Nutshell
The activities of NSRCEL are varied and encompass such areas as teaching, research, short-term programmes, seminars/panel discussions, entrepreneurship facilitation initiative and the most important of all the incubation facility for the entrepreneurs.
Teaching
Offers elective courses focusing on entrepreneurship for students of Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP)
Post Graduate Programme in Software Enterprise Management (PGSM)
Post Graduate Programme in Public Policy Management (PGPPM) and Doctoral courses.
Research
Undertakes research and case writing in entrepreneurship. NSRCEL had undertaken Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM), an international research project designed to assess the level of entrepreneurial activity in national economies. Other research projects are: “ Innovations in the Petroleum Sector” supported by National Petroleum Management Programme. “ Education and Training Needs of SMEs in Bangalore” supported by International Finance Corporation, Washington. “ Barriers and Facilitators of Entrepreneurship in Bangalore “ supported by Wadhwani Foundation. “EU Asia Link Project for developing an International Masters Programme in Entrepreneurship” “EU Asia Link project for facilitating technology transfer among SMEs” etc.
Entrepreneurship Education Programmes:
Conducts short term programmes for the benefit of Entrepreneurs in the areas of General Management, Family Business, Venture Capital & Entrepreneurial Finance etc.,
Seminars/Panel Discussions
Organizes seminars and panel discussions by distinguished speakers.
Entrepreneurship Facilitation Initiative
This is a scheme for offering of pro-bono advice to entrepreneurs from a panel of experts registered with NSRCEL, in the areas of Accounting, Company law, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Excise & Customs, Finance & Accounting, HRM, Investment & Valuation, IT, Marketing, Quantitative Methods, Strategy, Taxation and Venture Capital. This initiative is free-of-charge only for the first meeting.
NSR-GIV Incubator
Global Internet Ventures (GIV), a US-based $150 million fund, has provided NSRCEL with one-time grant for housing the incubator on the land provided by IIM Bangalore at its campus. The incubator, with state-of-the-art facility, helps entrepreneurs convert their business plan to a commercially viable product/service. The incubator has the capacity to house teams of 4-6 members each. The tenure of incubation is normally a year.
*The facilities offered to an incubatee are:
A faculty guide/ industry mentor
A cubicle space with computers and Internet connectivity
Facilities like photocopying & phone.
Access to IIMB library and Computer Centre.
Access to technology forums,
Access to network companies, offices or individuals, who could help startup ventures.
Access to expert advice from members of the facilitation panel.
Invitation to the seminars/panel discussions that are periodically held at IIMB for entrepreneurs.
