This program is built around a day-long simulation game, Malgudi Express that uses real village level field data to provide participant teams playing the role of a village family unit, the unique experience of making strategic decisions and conducting negotiations under high risk and uncertainty.
A social microcosm is created in the game where participants experience a different world, its constraints, and its outcomes. The simulation that runs over several cycles and the debriefing process provides powerful insights to managers about market behaviour, how firms impact markets, how cooperative and negotiated outcomes can reduce uncertainty and how trust building and ethical behaviour without opportunism can create positive outcomes over time.
Essential tools and concepts for decision making under uncertainty (drawing upon cutting edge research in fields as diverse as strategy, economics, social psychology, game theory, and organization science) are covered on the first day before the simulation game is played and results of actual game decisions and negotiated outcomes by participants will be analysed using the same tools the day after the game is played, to help participants identify their effective and ineffective decisions making patterns. Each participant leaves with his or her own set of unique experiences and learnings which become deeply entrenched in their mind and have a lasting impact.
