Fourth Annual International Conference on Public Policy and Management August 9-12 2009

The Fourth Annual International Conference on Public Policy and Management was held at IIMB during August 9-12, 2009.

The conference was inaugurated on August 9 by Dr Y V Reddy (former RBI Governor), who was the chief guest on the occasion. The conference sessions commenced on August 10, with Mr M J Akbar, renowned journalist and author as the keynote speaker. Dr Pratap Bhanu Mehta, President, Center for Policy Research, New Delhi gave the keynote address on August 11, 2009.

The themes for the 2009 conference were Managing Global Economic Challenges:  Policy Responses and Governance Initiatives; National and International Governance Challenges. There was also a much appreciated parallel track with the theme Quantitative Approaches to Public Policy honouring Professor T Krishna Kumar, formerly Professor and Head, Economic Analysis Unit, Indian Statistical Institute, Bangalore, who has spent a lifetime working on quantitative methods and their possible applications to public policy.

There were 35 sessions with four parallel tracks.  Some of the sub-themes were global trade policies and reforms, international finance and regulation, local governance and rural development, urban governance, banking and finance and policy modeling. There was also a special track on technology initiatives in governance with presentations made by practitioners.

The CPP Annual International Conference is considered as a seminal platform for all those who are working in the field of policymaking or are in a position to influence policy at various levels and each successive year sees an enthusiastic response.

The 2009 conference had 103 papers being presented by academics and practitioners from over 21 countries. The details of the papers presented are given below:
