IIMB Professor on Bretton Woods Committee
Bangalore, February 17, 2009: Professor Trilochan Sastry of the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) has been invited to be a member of the prestigious Bretton Woods Committee. Currently holding charge as Dean-Academic at IIMB, Professor Sastry has been with the Institute since March 2003.
"As one of the first Indians, and as a faculty member of IIMB, it is perhaps a significant event to be nominated to the Bretton Woods Committee. It also fits in well with IIMB's vision of making a contribution beyond business to society at large," says Professor Trilochan Sastry.
The Bretton Woods Committee members are leaders from every region of the world and every walk of life. Among their 700 members are ‘former heads of state, many cabinet ministers, top executives of leading companies, and heads of Universities and other civil society organizations.' It is a non-profit organization that acts in the advisory role to the Bretton Woods Institutions - the World Bank, IMF, WTO and other such multilateral Institutions. The committee is currently chaired by three former Presidents of USA. The Committee, because of the prestige of its members, has been able to influence world events significantly.

Created in 1983, The Bretton Woods Committee is a nonpartisan group of distinguished citizens dedicated to increasing understanding of the World Bank, IMF, WTO and the regional development banks and their efforts to spur economic growth, alleviate poverty and improve financial stability. The process requires the active participation of opinion leaders from across the United States and around the world to ensure a global perspective.

About Professor Trilochan Sastry: Trilochan Sastry obtained a Ph.D. from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He also did his B. Tech. from IIT Delhi and an MBA from Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad. Prior to joining Indian Institute of Management Bangalore he was a faculty member with Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad.
He has been associated with various universities as a part of their faculty. These include, visiting professor International University of Japan, Niagata, Japan; Visiting Professor, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Associate Dean (Research) and Professor - Indian School of Business. He has taught a wide variety of courses in the MBA programs, Doctoral programs and Executive education programs, including operations management, quantitative methods, data structure, algorithms and discrete mathematics. He has also taught senior executives in India, Sri Lanka and Kenya. The Association of Indian Management Schools adjudged Professor Sastry the "Best Young Teacher" for the year 1999.
He has also published in international journals related to operations research and on broader topics related to supply chain management, telecommunications, software and automobile industry. He has to his credit a number of management cases on operations management, ethics, change management and electoral reforms.
Professor Sastry has been a consultant to various Indian and International corporations. He has worked with ONGC in the Chairman's Office at New Delhi. He is a Trustee of Cooperative Development Foundation, Hyderabad, Chairman of Association for Democratic Reforms that successfully filed and won the public interest litigation on criminalisation of politics in the Supreme Court, and Secretary of the Centre for Collective Development, focused on promoting small and marginal farmer Cooperatives. He received the "Outstanding Contribution to National Development" Award from IIT Delhi in 2005.
