It is expected that one section of about 75 students will comprise the 2011 batch of the PGSEM program.
The academic year is divided into 4 eleven-week quarters. Every quarter, a student typically registers for 3-4 courses. Each course in the PGSEM program has a substantial amount of student-teacher interaction. This involves 30 hours of close classroom contact with IIMB faculty. Group projects assignments may have to be executed in a workplace context. The last week is reserved for final exams and project presentations. Make no mistake: even though this program is part-time by design, it is full-time by intent!
The program is delivered in two parts.
- Part I consists of core (i.e. mandatory) courses, delivered during the period of the first year. The student must satisfactorily clear these core courses before moving on to Part II. We expect that the participant is serious enough to attend these classes in the order they are delivered.
- Part II consists of elective courses, which the student can elect to take on a flexible basis. Students from multiple batches could be in attendance. Therefore, there is a formal process of bidding for these courses. Full-time faculty at IIMB offer a variety of electives that are intended to build upon the core.
Classes are held on the IIMB Campus. During the first year, students will have to attend classes between 8.00 am and 1.15 pm (both days) on Fridays and Saturdays. Afterwards, students need to attend only the electives they have chosen.
