Professor Chandra’s research and teaching interests include Manufacturing Management, Building Technological Capabilities, Supply Chain Coordination, Higher Education Policy, and Hi-tech Entrepreneurship. He has published extensively in international refereed journals and serves on the editorial board of several international journals. His recent papers relate to Measuring Capabilities in the Indian Life Sciences Industry, Capabilities in IT and Electronics Clusters in India, Pivoting Indian Manufacturing Policy Differently, and Governance in Higher Education.
Professor Chandra has taught at various global institutions such as McGill University (Montreal), University of Geneva, The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, International University of Japan, Cornell University, Renmin University (Beijing), and IIM Ahmedabad.
He has been conducting national manufacturing surveys for the last 20 years to assess plant-level competitiveness. He has also been a consultant to large Indian and multinational firms and is on the boards of several firms and institutions.
He has served as member of the Government of India (GoI) Committee on Clusters for Development of the Informal Sector. He was a member of the GoI Committee on Rejuvenation of Higher Education (Yashpal Committee). He was the Director of IIMB from 2007 to 2013.
