Outline (January – March 2002)
World-class
performance in delivering high-quality, cost-competitive products and services
is essential to survival in today’s global economy. In view of this, Operations Management has derived greater
attention in the curriculum of business management schools. This core course on
Operations Management introduces the concept of process analysis (both
manufacturing and service), process improvements and manufacturing planning and
strategy. This course will equip students with the basic analytical skills that
are required in the contemporary operations environment.

The
pedagogy consists of lectures, classroom discussions and group exercises such as
case analyses, and management games.
The students
will organise themselves into groups (each of size five)
to work on the assignments. In addition, there will be
a mid-term and an end-term examination.

The students are expected to work on the
cases/games in groups of five. The process of forming the groups is left to the
students. The Class Representative will inform the composition of each
group to the two instructors not later
than 5.00 p.m. on January 10, 2002.
· The deadline for submission of the case analyses is at the start of the lecture on the day the case is scheduled for discussion in the class.
